Venture: The Next Wave of Hard Tech
Moderator Sean Hoge, Founder & General Partner at Starship Ventures, will guide a thought-provoking discussion with Ben Nowack, CEO & Co-Founder of Reflect Orbital, and Stafford Sheehan, Founder & CEO of Project Omega. The discussion will explore how founders are innovating across aerospace, energy, and space tech—unpacking the path from breakthrough idea to scalable enterprise.
Starship Ventures, as a deep-tech focused VC firm, backs companies that challenge conventional boundaries in areas such as aerospace, advanced materials, energy, AI, and logistics.
Reflect Orbital is pioneering “sunlight-on-demand” via space-based reflectors that beam solar energy to Earth after sunset, enabling continuous renewable energy production.
Meet Our Speakers

Ben Nowack
CEO & Co-founder
Reflect Orbital
Ben spent years diving into hundreds of technical projects before starting Reflect Orbital to train for the day when the right idea came along. In high school, he ran the “BenNbuilds” science channel featuring projects like an xray machine, a fusion reactor, high temperature superconductors, and dozens of airborne and underwater vehicles.
In 11th grade he teamed up with Peter Brown of Whale Wars to build underwater live stream cameras in Hawaii to dissuade poachers. As a college freshman Ben led SpaceX projects validating Crew Dragon propulsion components, appeared on “Mythbusters: The Search” on the Science Channel, and solo climbed Mont Blanc. Sophomore year Ben summited Denali, returned to SpaceX, built a camera to explore the depths of Lake Tahoe on the weekends, ran 1,200 miles per year all while living in a Mazda Miata.
Ben completed his engineering degree while working as Senior Engineer at Park and Diamond, splitting his time between Boston, New York, and China. After graduating, he worked as Director of Engineering at Tri-D Dynamics and Mechanical Engineer at Zipline.
Reflect Orbital started as a typical 4am spreadsheet binge, and as the problem was refined and the opportunity became overwhelming Ben quit his job and partnered with Tristan to create an enormous company.

Stafford Sheehan, PhD
Founder & CEO
Project Omega
Staff Sheehan is an American scientist and entrepreneur focused on bringing practical energy solutions to life. During his PhD in chemical physics at Yale, he studied heavy metal chemistry and authored dozens of technical publications on the topic.
In the ten years since then, he was the cofounder and CEO of a company in the metal refining sector (Catalytic Innovations), cofounded a synthetic jet fuel business (Air Company), and now as CEO of Project Omega is leading development of innovative technology to recycle nuclear waste into usable nuclear fuel, rebuilding the nuclear fuel cycle in the US.

Sean Hoge
Founder & General Partner
Starship Ventures
Sean is a serial entrepreneur, technologist, and investor with deep expertise in product development and market insights. In 2012, he co-founded Crossfader.fm, which was backed by Kleiner Perkins, Index Ventures, and Google Ventures. He later joined NVOLV as Head of Product, a mobile app provider for events.
Disillusioned by the limitations of software, Sean shifted his focus to the convergence of bits and atoms. Since 2016, he has been an active advisor and angel investor. After achieving financial independence through personal investments, he launched an alpha test fund in 2018, which evolved into Starship Ventures.
As the visionary behind Starship, Sean was the first believer in companies now backed by Sequoia, Khosla Ventures, a16z, Lower Carbon, Lux, Valor and more.
Notable Starship portfolio companies include Pipedream Labs, Reflect Orbital, Atmos, BRINC, and Rainmaker.
